“A strange feeling”

The work in this article may feel a little different from my usual manner — but it is mine. Seeing it in Taiwan, after it left the studio in Japan, was freshly moving.

Perhaps it’s like going to see a child who has already left home.

I’ll keep taking on challenges beyond Japan.

I am the artist, NAO — a Japanese artist. I’d like to introduce a work selected in a contest hosted by Taipei 101. In fact, I had never been to Taipei then. I painted the Taipei that lived in my mind’s eye — the city as it rose before me. I blink in the film. As the images layered, they grew clearer, and the work was finished. This piece was used as advertising on the Taipei 101 observatory 88F, and I saw it used there in August 2024. I felt deeply honored. As a Japanese artist, I would be truly glad if I can keep fostering the friendship between Taiwan and Japan. Thank you.

My name is NAO, the author. I am a Japanese artist. I would like to share with you a piece of work that was selected for a contest sponsored by Taipei 101. Actually, I had never been to Taipei at that time. I painted Taipei in my image. As meaning that it comes to mind in my mind’s eye. I am blinking in the video. As the images overlapped, they became clearer and clearer, and the work was completed. This work is used as an advertisement on the 88th floor of Taipei 101 Observation Deck and I saw this work being used on the 88th floor of Taipei 101 Observation Deck and as an advertisement there in August 2024. I was very honored. As a Japanese artist, I would be happy if I could continue to build the bond of friendship between Taiwan and Japan.
